How to Clean Leather?

Often people use wrong remedies to clean leather. This can damage or ruin the fabric of your precious leather bag, skirt or sofa. To avoid this it is necessary to use the correct remedy. Below we have listed some the remedies to clean leather. Use them wisely and take a good care of your leather.

1.) Wipe off the Leather to Clean Leather

The first step you should take to clean the leather is wipe off the leather with a damp and soapy cloth. It will help to remove the big patches. Be sure to use natural or mild soap to clean the leather. Before cleaning your leather stuff with the soapy cloth do a patch test. Moreover, do not rub the cloth vigorously on the leather otherwise, it will ruin the leather. You can alternate this with dry cleaning. Do this regularly to clean your leather. If anytime you find the stain clean it immediately otherwise it will get reluctant and will nor remove.

2.) Lemon Juice to Clean Leather

Lemon juice is an all-rounder remedy you can use it clean anything, right from your silver articles to the leather clothes and sofa. It cleans the things so well that after using it you cannot even guess that the article filthy even. All you have to do is make a paste of the lemon juice and tartar. Soak a washcloth in this paste and use to clean the filthy areas of the leather jacket, sofa or any other thing. Leave it for a couple of hours then apply the paste again. Gently wipe it off with the washcloth. If the stains o are not removed then soak the washcloth in the water and wipe it off. Leave the leather to dry. You can also gently blow it dry. However, make sure that you do not dry the leather in the sun.

3.) Rubbing Alcohol to Clean Leather

You can also use alcohol to clean your leather. To remove the spots from your leather jacket or sofa, soak a cotton ball in the rubbing alcohol. Rub this cotton ball onto the leather to remove the spots. If the spots are not removed properly then you can use non-oily cuticle remover( Avoid nail polish remover). Leave the leather for a night. Next morning uses a damp cloth to wipe it off.

4.) Vinegar to Clean Leather

Vinegar will also help you to clean the stains from the leather shoe, jacket, or sofa. Make a solution of white vinegar and linseed oil. Pour this solution the jar and shake it well before using it. With the help of washcloth apply this solution on the leather. Leave it for a night. After it brush it off.However, if you want to clean the suede shoes then use undiluted vinegar to clean it. Make sure that you do not rub the vinegar on the suede otherwise, it will get damaged.

5.) Solution of Vinegar and Water to Clean Leather

If you want to remove the road salt from the leather then just mix one part of the vinegar and water. Dip a washcloth into it. Then blot it over the leather stuff. Do this many times until the stain of the road salt is gone properly. At last wipe of off your leather stuff with the damp cloth. If it is leather shoes then polish them to make them look like new shoes.

6.) Window Cleaner to Clean Leather

To remove the persistent stains from your leather bag or purse you can use window cleaner. All you have to do is spray the window cleaner on the stained area. Leave it for a few seconds. Then soak a washcloth in the water, wring out the excess water and use it to wipe off the leather bag. This is one of the easiest ways to clean leather

7.) Baking Soda to Clean Leather

If your leather bag, purse or shoes are smelling bad then you can remove it with baking soda. Open the box of baking soda and keep it in the bag. Leave the bag for a night next morning removes the box from there. Baking soda will absorb the moisture, therefore, the filthy odor will be removed from the bag. You can do same for the leather shoes as well. If the box of the baking soda does not fit in your shoes then just sprinkle baking soda in the shoes and leave it overnight.

8.) Corn Starch to Clean Leather

Well if the stain is greasy or oily, you can use cornstarch to remove it. Sprinkle a dash of cornstarch on the stain. Leave it for a few hours or overnight. In the meantime, the cornstarch will absorb the oil. Next morning, use a bristle brush to wipe off the corn starch from the leather. However, if it is suede then steam it after removing the cornstarch.

9.) Freeze the Leather to Remove Gum or Wax

If the gum or wax is stuck on your leather bag or shoes then freeze it for 3-4 hours. The gum or wax will heat hard and once it gets hard you scrape it off with your fingernail. However, if the stain is of mud then immediately wipe it off. However, if the stain is on suede then dry it first and then brush it off with the soft bristle brush.

10.) Hydrogen Peroxide to Clean Leather

Got a blood on your leather bag? Yes, use hydrogen peroxide to remove it. Soak the washcloth or a cotton ball into the hydrogen peroxide. And dab it over the stain. Hydrogen peroxide is so effective that the moment you will start working with it, it will show you results. The is one of the best remedies for suede.

11.) Vacuum to Clean Leather

One of the easiest ways to clean your leather sofa or bag is just vacuum it. However, do not vacuum the visible parts only. Make sure that you clean the corners which are often stained but are not available. For cleaning the bag with vacuum use lower power setting to avoid the damage.

12.) Dry clean to Clean Leather
