How to Cook Brown Rice in Rice Cooker

How to cook brown rice perfectly? Cooking brown rice is but it takes little more time and takes little more water than regular white rice. Brown rice is too much nutritious than white rice.

Here is a simple cooking method to cook brown rice perfectly.

Ingredients to Cook Brown Rice

Preparation Method to Cook Brown Rice

First rinse the brown rice 2-3 times with water in strainer until the water runs clear. Soak the brown rice in the cold water for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Soaking brown rice will reduce the cooking time for brown rice.

Cooking Method:

Add the soaked rice to saucepan. Take a large saucepan for greater cooking surface to make brown rice. It is necessary to dry the brown rice before cook.

Here are two methods to dry the rice:

1.) Take large – sized saucepan, add the rice and cook without lid on medium heat until the rice is dry. Stir in a small amount of salt if you want.

2.) Take large –sized saucepan, Heat a little oil on medium heat and fry the rice for 2 seconds. So that aroma of rice is flow.

Take kettle of boiling water while dry cooking the rice. Add 2½ cups of water for every cup of brown rice, in large saucepan. If you have not added salt at time of dry roast you can add salt now. Stir once.

Bring the water to boil, then slow the flame and simmer. Cover the saucepan with lid.

Cook the rice till the water almost absorbed. Take care – don’t stir the rice too much.

Remove the rice from the heat and let them cool for some time. Still cover the sauce pan for about 10 minutes. Rice should be bubbling very slowly.

Remove the lid of the pan and fluff up the rice with a fork.

Serve hot or if you want to refrigerate, let the rice cool half an hour.

Additional Tips for Cooking Brown Rice:

  • Soak the brown rice grains in cold water for 45 minutes to 60 minutes before cooking for softer rice.
  • Use a large saucepan for better cooking.
  • Cover the lid very tightly to prevent steam from escaping when cooking.
  • To add flavor,while cooking rice, add vegetable stock, chicken stock and other liquids.
  • Correct amount of water and rice is very important for making perfect brown rice.
