  • Lean Ground Beef – 2 pounds (80% fat)
  • Eggs – 2 (large)
  • Worcestershire Sauce – 1 tbsp
  • Bread Crumbs – 1 cup (dried)
  • Onion -1/2 cup (minced finely)
  • Milk – 1/2 cup
  • Fresh Sage Leaves – 1 tsp (chopped)
  • Ground Mustard – 1/2 tsp
  • Salt – To Taste
  • Black Pepper – To Taste

  • Ketchup
  • Maple Syrup
  • Dijon Mustard
  • Barbeque Sauce

Directions to Cook Meatloaf Recipe

1.) To make meatloaf, start by preheating the oven to 190 degree Celsius (350 degree Fahrenheit). Prepare a 9x5x3 inch loaf tin by spraying it with cooking spray.

2.) Use stale bread for this recipe as fresh bread will become mushy when mixed with the beef and will not hold together well. Crush the bread either by hand or by using a food processor.

3.) In a large mixing bowl, combine all the ingredients, beef, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, breadcrumbs, onion, sage leaves, ground mustard, salt, freshly ground black pepper and milk.

4.) Do not add all the milk at once, mix in the milk 1 tablespoon at a time and judge the consistency of the mixture before adding more.

5.) The mixture should not be runny; otherwise it will not set as a loaf.

6.) Mix and combine all the ingredients really well using a wooden spoon.

7.) Spread this mix in the prepared loaf tin and pack the meat mixture well. Make sure there are no air pockets.

8.) Tap the tin on your kitchen counter for a couple of times to get rid of any air bubbles.

9.) Smooth and even out the top of the loaf with wet hands.

10.) Glaze the top of the loaf using with any one of the above mentioned glaze. The most preferred glaze for a meatloaf is ketchup or barbeque sauce.

11.) Bake the meatloaf for an hour uncovered.

12.) Once the meatloaf is prepared, drain the excess fat.

13.) You can also glaze the top of the meatloaf if you find it too dry. Just add the glaze on top and bake it for an additional 10- 15 minutes.

14.) Serve the meatloaf with a side of mashed potatoes and peas, or some sautéed beans and glazed carrots.

You can make a lot of different variations to a meatloaf recipe, serve it with mushroom gravy, add Mexican flavours to the meat for a Tex-Mex meatloaf, or you can even add jalapeno peppers and cheddar cheese for a different flavour profile!
