Sunburn Treatment at Home: Treat Sunburn Skin with Home Remedies

Sunburn is a common problem for the people who regularly walk on the road for work or any kind of visit. Sunburn makes the skin look bad which is why people take different measures to avoid it. Sunburn treatment is simple, but you have to start the treatment at the earliest for effective result. We had included some home remedies for sunburn treatment. 1.) Pain Reliever to Treat Sunburn Skin

The most popular option is aspirin. These pain relievers reduce inflammation and pain. Children should not be given aspirin. Instead give them something specifically marketed for children, for example acetaminophen. However, Panadol do not have an anti-inflammatory effect, but ease any pain.

2.) Use Anti-Inflammatory Paste for Sunburn Treatment (Home Remedy to Treat Sunburn Skin)

For example, Aloe Vera or others specified for irritated or sunburned skin. One can also make anti-inflammatory paste using aspirin. Crush a few pills into powder, add a few drops of water at the time of making paste. Apply this paste on the affected areas to treat sunburn skin.

3.) Apply Moisturiser to Treat Sunburn Skin (Home Remedy)

Have one cool gentle shower or bath (avoid soap or other bathing detergents) and don’t rub yourself till dry instead let yourself dry naturally. Apply unscented moisturiser for a few days to prevent skin from getting dry.

4.) Apply Cool/Wet Cloth on Your Skin for Sunburn Treatment (Home Remedy)

If one is not able to bathe or prefer not to, you can apply cool or wet cloth to your skin. Dampen it as much as you’d like for about 15-30 minutes. Apply cold compress on the skin to treat sunburn skin.

5.) Drink Plenty of Water for Sunburn Treatment

Burns draws fluid to the skin surface. Drink more water, juice or sports drinks and watch for dehydration signs: Dry mouth, reduced urination, thirst, headache, dizziness, etc. If the signs persist, then you can check with the doctor. Drinking 8 glasses per day or more is fine. This will help in keeping skin hydrated.

6.) Wear Shield (if outside) to Treat Sunburn Skin

You should cover the affected areas if going out during sunshine. If skin exposure cannot be avoided, thin layer of lotion with aloe vera should be applied to the burn to prevent further damage. As the skin starts to heal, apply unscented moisturiser on the affected area to prevent further damage or irritation. You can also avoid exposing skin to sun using umbrella.

7.) Blister Treatment to Treat Sunburn Skin

Do not pop the blisters. Consider covering the itchy blisters with a dressing so as to reduce risk of skin infection. If you do have large blisters that need to be drained, hygienically pop it. Take a sterilized needle  after rubbing it with alcohol and water, at the edge of the blister make a small hole. Drain all the fluid and pat the area dry with clean cloth. If you are unsure about this, seek your doctor.

Hands should be washed before touching the blisters. This is to protect from infection. Apply Aloe Vera, as said above.

An antibiotic ointment should be considered to apply on your blister, if there is suspicion of infection. Infection often manifest as yellow pus, foul smell, or extra redness with irritation around the affected area.

Do not rub off the dead skin left over from blisters broken. Soon enough, you will shed them off; this is to reduce risk of irritating the skin even more.

Cover the skin with a loosely wrapped bandage to protect it from further damage after application of the ointments. Change it once a day.

8.) Loose Cotton Clothing to Treat Sunburn Skin

Loose cotton clothes should be worn over the sunburn skin. Baggy T-shirts, pants or shirts that are loose, cotton is ideal to wear while recovering. If loose clothing is not possible, make sure to wear cotton clothes that fit as loosely as possible to avoid irritation.

9.) Apply Aloe Vera to Treat Sunburn Skin

Take Aloe Vera and apply gently on the affected area. You can apply gels that contain aloe vera. It helps skin from irritation or drying out. Apply again if necessary.

10.) Vinegar to Treat Sunburn Skin (Vinegar shall be Suitable for Skin without Ruptures)

Mix vinegar with cool water (50-50 dilution) towels are soaked in solution or placed in a spray bottle. Drain the solution from the towels over the burns or spray. The smell vanishes from over an hour.

11.) Skim Milk for Sunburn Treatment

Use a cloth dampened in skim milk. Rest it on burned spots. The coolness takes out the initial fire.

12.) Tea for Sunburn Treatment

Boil 3 or 4 teabags in warm water. When it is almost black, let it cool after removing the tea bags. Soak a cloth in the tea and gently dab the sunburn with it, but do not wash it off. The more the better. You can also dab it with the tea bag if the burn is really bad. It is best done at bedtime. Wash it off in the next morning. Careful with clothing due to tea stains.

13.) Apply Apricots for Sunburn Treatment

Mash 4-5 apricots. Apply the mashed apricots on the skin burn area and leave it for 10-15 minutes. Wash it off with water and notice the difference on the sunburn skin.
