Home Remedies for toothache are very effective for instant relief. A toothache may be result of wisdom tooth or cavity. Almost all of us have experience of toothaches at some point of time in our life. And we all know that the pain never remains confined to the tooth or gum or the mouth for that matter. It may spread to the whole body and paralyze your activities. So, sooner you visit the dentist, better it is. But sometimes, you fail to make it because of preoccupations and need immediate relief from the horrid pain. Keeping that in mind, following home remedy tips is provided to help you manage the pain.

1.) Brush Your Teeth Well to Avoid Toothache

The main reason behind toothache is the infection or attack by the bacteria in the mouth. Brush your teeth well during toothache to get relief and consume some home remedy. As we all know that the bacteria survives on the starch or sugary food which sticks to the teeth and gums. Therefore, brushing your teeth properly and regularly is a must to make your mouth free from all the food material. Never allow the food material to cling to your teeth or gums, which may cost you a lot at a later date. It is recommended to brush your teeth after every main meal to help prevent the attacks from the germs.

2.) Use Clove to Relieve Toothache Pain

Since age-old days, clove or clove oil is used to cure pain in the mouth. This is because of its unique property to fight the bacteria and destroy them. Apart from that, the clove oil also has numbing property. Actually, the eugenol in the clove oil is responsible for these special properties in the clove which gives an effect of local anesthesia.

Instead of the clove oil, use of raw cloves are also effective home remedy for toothache if applied properly. All you need to do is to take a few cloves and keep them in your mouth for some time such that it gets moistened and release the oil on bruising by your non-paining molars. Once it is done, all you need to do is to hold the moistened cloves against your painful or sore tooth for at least half an hour. You will get relief, for sure.

3.) Rinse with Warm Salt Water to Relief from Toothache

In order to get rid of infection, one may find this tip very effective. After brushing properly, just wash your mouth well with warm salt water. Mix a tablespoon of salt in a small glass of warm water and churn around inside your mouth for as long as possible. You may repeat it twice or thrice in case you are not able to manage the pain. Remember, your toothache is caused by infection and germs are not able to survive in salty water. So, try this out and it will definitely relieve your pain. In order to get rid of the salty taste, warm water rinsing may be tried.

4.) Rinse with a Bit of Hydrogen Peroxide

Take a little bit of Hydrogen Peroxide and churn it well inside your mouth. In case you are not able to withstand the horrid taste of H2O2, may try diluting it with water and use again which acts as a great home remedy for toothache.

5.) Use Vanilla Extract/Almond Extract/Peppermint Extract/Lemon Extract

Vanilla extract, almond extract, peppermint extract and lemon extract- Each of these extracts help reduce the pain in the tooth. All you need to do is to saturate a cotton ball with the extract and hold it in place, i.e., where the tooth is hurting. It will definitely help relieve your toothache. Instead of saturating the cotton balls with extracts, it may also be done by dipping cotton swabs in the extracts and applying it on the paining tooth.

6.) Rinse with Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil also helps relieve the toothache remarkably. All you need to do is to add a few drops of tea tree oil to a small glass of lukewarm to warm water and rinse well with it. In case you want to avoid rinsing, you may try it with cotton swabs. Just dip the swab in the tea tree oil and hold it on the affected tooth.

7.) Use Paste of Ginger and Red (Cayenne) Pepper

Mix the powder of both the ingredients and add a few drops of water to make the paste. Soak a cotton ball in the paste and hold it against the sore tooth. It will also help relieve the pain.

8.) Use a Freshly Cut Cucumber

Take a fresh cucumber and slice it. Hold the cucumber slice in place. In case the cucumber is refrigerated and you are sensitive to cold, it is advisable to bring it to the room temperature before cutting and application. It can also be applied as a pack around the sore tooth by mashing it with salt.

9.) Apply Baking Soda to Relief from Toothache

Baking soda also helps in reducing the pain substantially. It can be applied in two ways. First is using a cotton swab whereby you need to saturate the swab with a bit of water and then get it coated with baking soda by dipping the moist swab in the soda powder. Apply it on the sore tooth.

Otherwise, a spoonful of baking powder can be mixed in a small glass of warm or lukewarm water. Once the soda gets dissolved, just rinse your mouth with the solution properly.

10.) Tannins in Tea Leaf may Daze or Numb the Pain

Take a used tea bag and apply it on the sore tooth area. The tannins in the tea leaves will help make it numb and reduce pain. But be careful of not tearing the tea bag which will otherwise create mess and hurt the tooth.

11.)  An Ice Pack may Effective enough to Help Numb Things

An ice pack on the affected side of your cheek will make things numb and release the pain. But be careful about using the pack. Direct contact of ice is never recommended and hence one needs to use a clean cloth or towel to hold the ice and then place it against the affected cheek.

All these tips are however practised since ages and there is not much scientific basis for each of these remedies. But it works well and are not harmful to the skin or mouth or stomach for that matter. Anyway, in case the pain is not arrested, even after application of the above-mentioned remedies, it is always better to follow up with the dentist and take proper care as per his advice.
